My mom and Baby

Going home

We arrived at the Hospital at 6:30 am to start getting induced.  After I got all checked in the doctor broke my water at 7:40 am.  I was already dialated to 3-4 cm.  I didn't want to have pitocin at first b/c I wanted to see if my body would do it on its own.  After 2 hours I was only dialated to 4-5cm.  So I said ok we can start on a low dose of Pitocin. I didn't want an epidural to soon b/c then it would slow down my labor and I didn't want that.  I really didn't want to be in labor all day.  I was in labor with Lilly for 13 hours and I just wanted this to go faster (famous last words).  So they checked me about an 1.5 later and my contractions had started picking up and I was having some pain!!  I was dialated at a 6cm so I said alright I want my epidural now.  I was not planning on doing this natural at all.  I had no desire to be in that kind of pain and I wanted this to not tramatize me.  So they said it could take up to an hour for the anethiesiologist to get there b/c they were busy this morning with surgery and other deliveries.  So by this point I was crying and I actually have a very high pain tolerance so for me to break down and start crying means I was really hurting.  So 20 mins went by I went into the bathroom to go and I came back and told the nurse I felt a lot of pressure down there.  So she checked me again and said well you are ready to push.  Just then the anthesiologist walked in.  The nurse said you do not have time to get an epidural now.  I think just the fact that I had no intention of doing this w/out an epidural really scared me.  It was probably one of the scariest moments of my life when the nurse said ok you are going to have to do this on your own.  So the doctor wasn't there yet and the nurse was holding the baby in b/c I was ready.  I remember thinking ok just get her out then the pain will go away.  So I pushed once and she was out!!  I told nate I was not going to have to push again.  My mom was able to be there with me so I was really thankful that she was there b/c I needed all the support I could get to know that I could do this.  So my labor was 4.5 hours but the worst part was probably the last hour.  I must say everybody kept telling me the recovery is better for you and the baby and they were right.  I do feel so much better than when I had Lilly.  Now I can say I did it w/out drugs (not intentional of course).  We'll see what I decide to do for my next baby.  But I am a little traumatized not going to lie.  I'm just glad it was fast and we are doing great!

We chose Elaine as Caroline's middle name b/c it was Nate's grandma's name.  I like to name my kids after family.  Lilly was named after my grandma.  Caroline weighed 7lbs 8 oz and 20.5 inches long.  She weighed almost a whole pound more and 2 inches longer than Lilly.  They look very much alike.  Which really surpises me b/c Nate and I are like total opposite in our looks but shes cute we'll keep her!!  I am so grateful for a safe, fast delivery and a healthy baby!!

Way to go without the meds even if it was unplanned you still did the work! Next time if you take a class it probably won't be as bad because you'll be more prepared, but I understand it is painful!
